I just finished a short story... 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
So, I just finished a short story (3000) words and now I am trying to figure out what to do with it.

Ideally I would like to have it published somewhere. I have quickly discovered that there aren't a whole lot of places that will even look at my story.

I am looking for suggestions on where to look, or even how I should be looking for places.

Hey Superside,

I wholeheartedly recommend Duotrope -- register there and you wont be sorry, It's a data_base_ of over 1525 current markets for short fiction, poetry, and novels/collections.

Use them to search for markets that may make a fine home for the piece you just finished up. They even have a free online submissions tracker for registered users.

It's a great site. You can even check pay scale, etc.

What genre does it belong to?

Thanks Steven! I will check it out.

I'm not sure what genre my story fits in.

What I find the most challenging about writing is the de_script_ion of the environment. For this reason, I wrote a story that was mostly _base_d on de_script_ion.

It took awhile to write, but I am very happy with the results. It's a very subtle story, that combines poetry and short story. When I was writing it, I considered it "word art", so maybe that should be the genre I consider it as (if one exists).

And look at me ramble..lol
