I'm really digging all these technical questions posted lately -- its tough to find answers to these questions, even with the mighty GOOGLE.

Anyway, can anyone tell me if there is any way of telling whether a font's licence will allow it to be _embed_ded in a PDF before producing the Acrobat document and the log file telling you a font can't be _embed_ded?

I've used some fonts from a font collection that can't be _embed_ded. If I bought the same or similar font seperately from an onlline font store would I be facing a similar problem?

Isn't there a way when exporting to tell from Indesign or Quark or whatever application you are using to outline all instances of said font?

The probem with "outlining" fonts leads to quality degradation, althjough it is possible.

Andd even though outlining may physically get around the physical prohibition that the particular font may have, most often, the font's EULA (end user license agreement) prohibits _embed_ding, outlining or rasterizing as a technique to get around the restriction.

Always check to see if a font is _embed_dable before you purchase it, I have learned after being burnt!
