Choosing the right font for the (online) job! 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 3
Found this pretty cool resource, www.designersmind.com.

The site was started to provide seasoned and new web designers with a resource to look to when they need help.

Sure, it's for web designers, but a lot of the principles apply to paper, too. Alhtough, admittedly, they are truly different beasts!

Designers spend a large portion of their work time contemplating the aspects of text and/or font. In order to help understand the importance of font, ask yourself “What differences are there between the font and text of professional designs as opposed to low quality work?”.

A good blog post, but there are lots of other great resources online.

I don't really design for the web, but one thing I find is that Arial is a boring boring font -- it is a great web font, which is why it is so ubiquitous, I guess. As a sans-serif typeface that’s easy to read, has great proportions, and looks good when used with proper vertical spacing.

I wish another sans-serif font would take its place and that it would stop spilling out into print!

What I hate is when Times New Roman is is used in web design. Since many people still use CRT monitors (I have been at work but just got a new LCD—yay) which are unable to display the serifs properly. Times is a great typeface for print... maybe a bit overused, but still a great face.
