I’ve been purchasing copies of and subscribing to as many experimental-friendly poetry journals as I can afford.

I’m attempting to find some good journals to send some essays and poetry that I've compiled while working towards my MFA. Because of a comment on this site, I learned about Jacket, an online literary journal edited by John Trantner. I spent my lunch hour reading criticism from the latest issue. The quality of the journal (from this reader’s perspective) is the same (or better) than is found in the print literary journals I have purchased. Also, it appeared from the contributor bios, that there are some heavy-hitters there.

I have two (maybe three questions): (1) Are there many of these online literary journals with the same quality as Jacker? (urls please) (2a) What’s their perceived status? (2b) Should beginning authors start by submitting to these journals or only after they have been rejected by the bigger name print lit journals?

Thanks in advance -- oh here's a _link_ to Jacket:

Selby's List 2 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 4
Jacket is a pretty good journal, more or less in the post-avant neighborhood.

A very good resource, if you're wanting to find a journal from this neck of the aesthetic woods, is the on-line list Spencer Selby keeps, at http://www.selbyslist.com. Selby updates this list monthly and includes a lot of smaller 'zines and e-zines that are not members of, say, CLMP. There are _link_s to all the journals that do have websites.

If you're interested in experimental/innovative writing--reading it, or submitting your own work--Selby's List is probably the best place to start.

If you care to share, I'll create a category for markets in the "Small Press Directory". Feel free to add any directory or resource you come across.

Let me know what you think of Selby's List. Spencer Selby is also a great experimental poet.

Speaking of outlets for experimental writing, you might want to try Barfing Frog Press. I know CB Smith (their editor) recently registered here. Here's his profile. Maybe he'll see this and give you the scoop on Barfing Frog.

Here's the _link_ to the Barfing Frog website.

I haven't checked it out too thouroughly, as I've been quite busy -- but will make a point of it this week.

Hey,
I am in fact the aforementioned CB Smith, and I too know this CB Smith character as it should undoubtedly be. Anyhoo, Barfing Frog Press is, if I say so myself, a veritable plethora of expermenters experimenting away in a most divine and absurd fashion. Your time will not be wasted visiting.
And take a look at the Galleries section while you're there. Oh, before I forget, thank you Daniel Sendecki for the gracious exposure.
Cheers, 8)
CB

Thanks, guys. I will most definitely check out Barfing Frog and Selby's list.

I'd be happy to post up _link_s of any other sites I find, too. Very cool.
