derek beaulieu is an author, editor, translator and illustrator working in Calgary. Continuously pushing the boundaries and restrictions of the “regular life” of the twenty-six letters of the alphabet, beaulieu’s work underscores the playfulness of language and challenges the way readers have come to expect letters to behave. Using techniques that combine graphic design, fine art and experimental writing, beaulieu opens up new ways of approaching and interpreting poetry.
While working at housepress, beaulieu immersed himself in various radical poetic forms including concrete poetry. Extensively published in magazines and chapbooks, beaulieu?s work has appeared in hundreds of publications in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
beaulieu is currently working as the administrative director of the New Gallery; he is also the managing editor of filling Station magazine. |
