it's all in my head
Doug Jarvis can usually be seen playing with things he’s found; not only with things he’s found on the street but things he’s found in other people’s living spaces. Doug is fun to be around because when you’re with him you end up collaborating on projects that you dream up together. Evidence of this can be seen in it’s all in my head, an artist’s book published on the occasion of an exhibition at Access ARC’s Project Room, a vibrant but short-lived indie exhibition space in Vancouver.
It’s all in my head is a full-colour, 28 page stapled book that presents an overview of the kind of events, gestures (found or structured) that cluster around thinking about the How and the Why of things. Represented here is a selection of attitudes of inquiry – drawings made with a solar pen and drawings made with a video camera; concrete poems alongside drawings constructed like concrete poems. Objects set out for observation are deconstructed and recombined along lines of an intuited disharmony, aimless and inconsistent.
It is always a pleasure to find a book that is about oblique approaches to creative thinking and this small volume is one of those rare books.
