We are looking for the Novel of novels. That’s right. We are launching a line of fiction, and want to put out books of high literary merit that will blow everything else away.

For our First Annual BLATT Books Novel Contest, we are seeking challenging, adventurous novels of up to 400 pages in length. Both first-timers and established novelists are encouraged to enter. All novels entered must be written in English; translations are not eligible for this prize.

What we don’t want: books for children, poetry, self-help, genre fiction.

We’re looking for literary fiction. Interpret that however you want. To get an idea of the kind of work we typically favor, we encourage you to read the current issue of our magazine, BLATT, which can be ordered by sending $12 (including Shipping & Handling) via Paypal, to orders @ blatt.cz

In order to make the process fair, please follow these instructions.

1. Send your manuscript as an attachment (.doc or .pdf ONLY, please) to press @ blatt.cz. In the e-mail, please include the following info:
       Your name
       Your e-mail address
       Your postal address
   
   YOUR NAME SHOULD NOT APPEAR ANYWHERE ON THE ATTACHED MANUSCRIPT. Please do not include acknowledgments, a bio, or a list of previous publications anywhere in the attachment.
   
2. The contest entrance fee, $30, is to be paid via Paypal to orders @ blatt.cz

Please note that neither of these e-mail addresses is intended for personal correspondence for Joshua Cohen, Travis Jeppesen, or any other member of the BLATT staff, past or present. All contest-related e-mail will be processed by a third party; any and all personal messages will be deleted.

The deadline for entry is 11:59pm on April 30, 2007. Any entries received after this time will be disqualified, the entrance fee returned.

The winner, who will be selected by the BLATT editorial board, shall receive a $500 advance against royalties and publication by BLATT Books.
BLATT Books reserves the right to publish more than one manuscript submitted for the contest. The winner will be announced no later than June 30, 2007. The winning manuscript will be published in 2008.

BLATT Books is not accepting any other submissions at this time.
