The Next Roadshow—PMR #34— is on  now, June 16–23 featuring literary grrrl JENNIFER WHITEFORD from Ottawa and puppet-packing satirist JEFF COTTRILL from Toronto!

The Perpetual Motion Roadshow is an indie press touring circuit, an unholy combination of a vaudevillian variety show and a punk rock tour. Each month, three new lively indie performers pile in a car and do seven cities in eight days, doing shows with the bold guarantee: NO BORING READINGS OR YOUR MONEY BACK! Transnational, it loops the northeast May-October and makes runs down the west coast during November-April. Founded by No Media Kings, we've been making our own fun since 2003—running on pure volunteer power and dirty dirty gasoline.

All shows are pay-what-you-can.

  • Chicago: Fri. June 16, 7 pm. Quimbys (1854 W. North Ave.) w/ loser for hire Matt Fagan!
  • Cincinnati: Sat. June 17, 8:30 pm. Hobo Books (4040 Hamilton Ave.) w/ local writer Matt Alvis and music by Soul in the Shade!

Jennifer Whiteford lives in Ottawa, Ontario where she works in a bookstore, teaches college courses, and writes fiction. She is a nearsighted vegetarian with an allergy to cheese. Her personal zine of stories and comics, Matilda, just celebrated its five year anniversary. Jennifer's long-time-coming first novel, Grrrl, (published by Gorsky Press in April 2006) is a punkrock coming-of-age story set in Toronto's suburbs in the early '90s. To satisfy her internal music geek and her love of free records, Jennifer also reviews albums and interviews bands for Razorcake Magazine. Her online blog, www.matildazine.org, will delight those who enjoy tales of biking to rock shows and pictures of rottweilers.

Jeff Cottrill is a fiction writer and spoken-word performer whose stage act uses elements of performance poetry, comedy, theatre, storytelling... even the occasional puppet. With a satirical, often darkly comic flavour, he likes to make his audiences laugh, cringe, or (preferably) both. He has also written film reviews, arts articles, and even (gasp!) relationship self-help. Jeff has featured in many Toronto literary shows as well as in several U.S. cities and even in London, England. In 2005, he released his first CD, Cracktastic!, and he has also had two chapbooks published. Jeff likes movies, travel, and puppies. http://jeffcottrill.coffeehouse.ca
