Seekers in the Annex

From the National Post's "Best in TO" column today:

You would think it would be relatively easy to find a book on the practices of Zoroastrian mysticism in relation to Eastern philosophy in your local mall or big box retailer. Unfortunately for most occult enthusiasts, unless you live within driving distance of Seekers Books, you're out of luck.

The unassuming basement store, located in the heart of the Annex, Seekers is the only place in the city where you can lose yourself for hours learning about why aliens were behind JFK's assassination or how Hitler is actually having a tea party with Stalin at this very moment. Most of the small press books Seekers sells -- and there are more obscure titles than imaginable—deal exclusively in the occult and mysticism.

Though there are several shelves of literary classics and poetry collections crammed into the store's tiny space, the conspiracy theorist in everyone will be hard-pressed to leave empty handed. Reputedly carrying almost 25,000 books, the store also operates a small head shop in the back (surprise!), and regularly draws a crowd of bohemian slackers, scholarly types and curious students. If you're just getting into practising witchcraft (hello, rebellious teenage daughters), you'll find more than enough material to start casting those spells or just start infuriating your parents.

A warning to fussy-minded literary types: if you're looking for a specific text, you're better off on the Internet as the sections are only loosely alphabetized, at best. A bonus: a perfect pre- or post-bar hangout, as the store is often open until midnight.
