Interview with John Everson, horror author
Written by Theodore Lusney
Monday, 01 January 2007

Great new post from Editor Matt Staggs Skullring.org on John Everson, an artist with few creative boundaries. He's a Bram Stoker Award-winning author, music critic, musician and photographer living in Illinois. His newest novel is "Sacrifice", available from Delirium Books.

John, would you mind introducing yourself to our readers?

Sure! I'm an obsessively creative, frustratingly procrastinative writer-editor-musician type, living near Chicago with my wife and son, and two birds (a cockatoo and cockatiel) who tend to sit on opposite ends of my computer monitor whenever I write. I've always been fascinated with creepy stories, goth art and music, etc. I never dress up, but my favorite holiday is Halloween. I started my adult life as a newspaper journalist, moved on to become a music magazine editor and these days I serve as a publications director for a medial association...all the while still writing the weekly pop music review column I started at the newspaper almost 19 years ago (check here for column archives).

What are your published works?

I started publishing short stories in magazines like Eulogy, Gaslight, Crossroads, Dead of Night and Terminal Fright back in the early '90s. In 2000, Delirium Books issued CAGE OF BONES & OTHER DEADLY OBSESSION, a harcover limited edition collection of 20 of my stories, mostly erotic horror in theme. Many of them were reprinted from various magazines where they appeared in the '90s. In 2003, Twilight Tales issued a trade paperback, VIGILANTES OF LOVE, which collected 15 more of my short stories, showing more of my fantasy and lighter horror side. Again, many of those had originally appeared in magazines in the '90s and early 2000s.

In 2004, my first novel, an occult horror tale called COVENANT, was issued as a limited edition hardcover by Delirium Books. Within the same month, a ghost story anthology called SPOOKS!, which I co-edited and designed, was also released by Twilight Tales.

In 2006, an erotic horror novelette, FAILURE, appeared from Delirium, which will be issuing the sequel to COVENANT, a novel called SACRIFICE, in early 2007. There's an excerpt from that novel posted currently on the Delirium Books site at http://www.deliriumbooks.com/insider/?p=65 Also in 2007, my third short story collection, NEEDLES & SINS should be out from Necro Publications.
